L’expérience professionnelle à l’étranger : expérience de travail et voyage initiatique

Résumé : L’expérience professionnelle à l’étranger peut constituer l’occasion d’une véritable immersion dans le pays et dans la vie quotidienne de ses voisins, collègues, parfois amis, en échappant à la situation « hors-sol » du touriste.Elle semble permettre à l’individu d’occuper une place singulière en n’étant ni étranger ni autochtone, lui donnant accès à des rapports plus égalitaires que le touriste (au moins en impression) avec la population locale ; à la participation à la vie locale ; à une utilité intégrée. Elle offre ainsi la possibilité de réduire la distance avec « l’autre en tant qu’autre », non seulement par le temps passé sur place, mais encore par une plus grande horizontalité avec les habitants.Nous proposons ici d’envisager cette expérience dans sa dimension initiatique, en particulier chez les jeunes pour lesquels c’est une occasion de partir en dehors du cadre touristique, qui peut faire office d’entrée dans l’âge adulte, de plonger dans un univers d’autonomie et d’incertitude. Celui qui part doit affronter un certain nombre d’épreuves, dont il sortira changé.Partant des analyses de J. Campbell sur les trois temps de l’initiation (avant - pendant — après), l’interprétation réclame l’étape du retour en même temps que le retour sur l’expérience. Il s’agit d’une recherche en cours reposant sur une collecte d’entretiens.
Professional experience abroad can be an occasion for being truly immersed in the country, in the life of one’s colleague, sometimes friends, in avoiding the traditional tourist framework.It seems to allow having a peculiar place without the feeling of being a total foreigner neither a local. Allowing a closer relationship with the locals (at least giving that impression). Taking part in the daily life and feeling deeply useful. It offers the possibility to reduce the distance with the “other” as “another” thanks to the time spent on site but also with an improved relationship with the inhabitants.We suggest exploring this experience in its learning aspect, specifically amongst young people. It is an occasion to get out of the usual tourist framework and get fully immersed in autonomy and uncertainty. Upon leaving and trying out this experience one will face challenges which will change him or her forever.Taking the three different analysis from J. Campbell on the three initiating steps (before, during and after the stay) the interpretation requires the return stage as well as the feedback on the experience, providing a collection of interviews.
